1. Customizing Sensors
I want to connect an alternative sensor - what is the criteria?

When taking a sensor reading the RTU supplies all analog sensors connected at the same time with the full battery voltage. The sensors are powered for 2 seconds. At the end of these 2 seconds the resulting ouput signal is stored in temporary memory. Depending on the sample and slot settings, at the end of the slot time the selected value (average, first, last, min, max) is moved into permanent memory.

2. SDI-12
What do I need if I plan to use an SDI-12 sensor ?
You will need one of the following RTU's: A723, A732, A733, A733 GSM, running firmware version 2.1 or higher. We strongly recommend to upgrade to the latest version!
To connect the sensor to the RTU the A506 SDI-12 adapter is required.
You will also need either an A840 or an A850 Telemetry Gateway. If you own an A840 Telemetry Gateway please make sure that you run at least firmware version 3.3.0 or higher. Upgrading to the latest version is higly recommended!
The A730SD receiver does NOT support SDI-12 sensors, because the new radio frame type sent by the RTU will not be recognized.
Software: addVANTAGE Pro 4.x or Pro 5.x

Can I use addVANTAGE 3.x with SDI-12 Sensors ?
No, addVANTAGE 3.x does not support SDI-12 sensors!
Please contact your Adcon distribution partner to inquire about an upgrade to addVANTAGE Pro 5.x!

Can Adcon RTU's power SDI-12 sensors?
Yes, but only if your sensor will operate properly within a supply voltage range from 5.5 Volt to 10 Volt (typ. 6.3 Volt to 7.5 Volt) . Sensors which require more than that will need to be powered externally.

Can I set the address of an SDI-12 Sensor via the RTU?
No. To change the address of an SDI-12 Sensor you will need a so-called "SDI-12 Verifier". You can also use the Adcon A511 Sensor Tester.

How to find out if an SDI-12 Sensor is compatible to Adcon equipment?
Please ask the SDI-12 Manufacturer or contact Adcon Support!
You will find a variety of sensors, which we have tested and found compatible, on the back page of our sensor leaflet . Such sensors include the full range of OTT's level sensors, the Hydrolab and YSI water quality multi-parameter probes, the SONTEK Argonaut and MACE ultrasonic flow sensors, and others.

What's the maximum cable length for SDI-12 Sensors?
According to the current SDI-12 specification an SDI-12 cable run can be up to 60meters or 200 feet long.
(but don't forget about the enormous voltage drop on such a long cable and it's consequences to the sensor's power supply!)
