The System
The Adcon Base Station consists of two separate units: the A840 Telemetry Gateway and the A440 Wireless Modem. The A840 manages a network of Adcon RTU’s (Remote Telemetry Units) and is available in two versions: the A840-LE handles up to 5 RTU's, and can easily be upgraded to a full A840, which can handle up to 200 RTU's.

Polling Head
It is the A840 that knows how often it needs to poll data from each station, how each RTU can be reached (routing info) and which sensors are attached. The data retrieved is stored in the A840 and passed on the Server either via Ethernet-Interface or serial port. An integrated V.34 analog modem allows remote data retrieval. 16 MB of RAM are sufficient to buffer data of 100 stations for about 1 week (depending on the number of sensors attached to each station). The integrated battery keeps the A840 alive in case of black-outs and prevents loss of data.

The A840 Telemetry Gateway communicates via a 30m RS-485 cable with the roof mounted A440 Wireless Modem. For very large buildings or installations on a high mast an optional 75m low-attenuation cable can be supplied. The A440 Wireless Modem comes in an IP67 rated case and is compatible with all Adcon RTU's sold to this day.

The very same A840, that retrieves data via it's A440 from UHF RTU's can at the same time communicate with A733 GSM/GPRS units. It can do so either via its integrated analog modem or by using an external GSM modem attached to its serial port.
