For many applications it is mandatory to know exactly just how strong the wind is really blowing, since wind gusts can be many times higher than average wind speed. The A508 WindMAX is the solution. While the RTU measures wind speed by default only once per minute, the A508 WindMAX adapter measures continuously. This allows to log gusts that occur between two readings.

A508 WindMAX is compatible with Adcon RTU's of type A723 addIT and A733 addWAVE. This adapter does not require any external power supply.

Installation
A508 WindMAX is easy to install. It plugs into an analog connector of the RTU, while the wind sensor is connected to the A508. Existing installations can easily be upgraded.

The analog port dedicated to take the wind gust readings is set to store the "max" value of all readings taken within a time slot. Instead of averaging the RTU now delivers only the highest wind speed that occurred within the observation period.

Example
The table below shows the readings taken by two different RTUs, once with, once without A508 WindMAX. The observation period is set to 900 seconds, within which 15 samples are to be taken, one every 60 seconds.

The RTU without A508 WindMAX switches the analog port ON every 60 seconds, takes a reading and stores it. When the 15th reading is taken, an average value is calculated and reported back to base.

At the RTU with A508 WindMAX in turn it is the A508 WindMAX that monitors wind speed permanently, non-stop. Every 60 seconds, when the RTU sends its request for data, the A508 WindMAX delivers the top wind speed that occurred in the last 60 seconds.
